Decline in Critical Thinking in the age of AI & Social Media
Over the past two decades, information overload, echo chambers, and AI-generated content have contributed to a significant decline in critical thinking skills. Meta-analysis of 60+ studies shows that deductive reasoning, inference making, and argument evaluation have declined 10-15% over 30 years.
Why Critical Thinking?
60% of employers prioritize critical thinking when evaluating candidates. As AI automates routine tasks, these skills become essential for creativity, ethics, and emotional intelligence—yet 61% of graduates need further development in this area.
An AI Experience that Compels Humans to Think
Twella is a platform that leverages social media content & AI-powered guidance to help people reason better. It's holistic framework sharpens critical thinking skills as Twella's mini games and deep learning modes enable young minds to exercise their cognitive muscles on a daily basis.
Unlike an AI app where humans ask questions that make the LLM better, on Twella, the AI probes the user's mind to pose questions that compel them to think, instead of just consuming media. The deep learning mode works at a higher level: 3 prompts to assess mindset, beliefs & topic knowledge, to raise awareness of your mental models. 3 prompts to evaluate credibility, evidence, & influence in a media post while cutting through noise. Lastly, we show a social map to see how others think across differences in age, gender, race to enrich our understanding.
Positive Impact on Thinking

Established strategic partnerships and sales pipeline: Cultivated key relationships in four geographic areas (Chicago, Wyoming, Sarasota, and Columbus) with 4-5 meetings per area, developed a $1.5M sales pipeline across Indiana, Florida, and New Jersey, and worked toward securing first paid contracts with universities and high schools
